WHEN this photo was taken in Sydney last month, Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson were careful to keep their distance but there was no hiding their chemistry.

Now we know why.

With official word of Hudson's separation from bearded rocker husband Chris Robinson now out, rumours that the actress and her You, Me and Dupree co-star hooked up on their recent world promotional tour have kicked into gear.

According to reports, the pair were already seeing each other in June, before the movie promo junket hit Sydney late last month for its premiere at Parramatta.

It's hardly surprising for those who saw them together here.

Unlike most touring film co-stars, Hudson and Wilson spent much of their time hanging out together while in Sydney.

That included stripping down for a dip in the chilly water at Bronte beach soon after arriving.

Hudson and Wilson are rumoured to have often shared hotel rooms during the promo tour, while the actress has reportedly been a frequent overnight guest at Wilson's Santa Monica, Californian pad recently.

Whatever the speculation, Hudson produced some good acting during her time in Sydney, telling reporters across the country that she was happy and in love with Robinson, lead singer of The Black Crowes.

Hudson and Robinson announced their separation this week after nearly six years of marriage.
They have one child together, two-year-old Ryder Russell.

THE ecstasy was written all over Michelle Leslie's face as the Bali drug model paraded before a celebrity who's who at Myer's summer collection launch last night.

While the store brought some Jennifer Hawkins magic to the catwalk in retaliation to last week's Megan Gale and Mischa Barton assault for David Jones, the convicted drug user came as hidden artillery in round two of the annual department store wars.

Appearing for the menswear department - but only after some coaxing and a confidence-boosting backstage spray tan - Willie Mason, Mark Gasnier, Matt Cooper, Reni Matua, Robbie Farrah and Eric Grothe were among 10 league blokes to hit the catwalk in a move which brought no end of enjoyment to their watching buddies, including NRL chief David Gallop, Sonny Bill Williams and Benji Marshall.

They enjoyed front-row status among Myer designers Charlie Brown, Carla Zampatti, Bianca Spender and Leona Edmiston.

In another Channel 9-athon, the coveted front row was also taken up by Mark Ferguson, who brought wife Jayne, Jamie Durie and skaters Lara Bingle and Jake Wall, who adoringly looked on as his girl Hawko stole the show.

Needless to say Nine boss Eddie McGuire wasn't at home watching Today Tonight and spent yet another night out with wife Carla.

Taking up the second row was eligible bachelor Justin Hemmes, Thorpie's girl Lee Furlong, wannabe singer Kate Fischer, Miss Australia Erin McNaught and skater Jules Lund.

Nova's Tim Ross got some style tips and it was a night out for father-and-daughter team Barry and Miranda Otto as Myer brought out 108 models, children, dogs - and comedian Gary Eck.

After a waif-like showing on stage, the guests feasted on toasted sangas by Nicole Kidman's wedding caterers John and Peter Wilson while the VIPs took off to a Justin Hemmes after-party at Hemmesphere.

IT has been a busy past couple of days for Max Markson.

The celebrity agent has been in Tassie trying to lure freed miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb into a media deal. In his spare time he has signed The Biggest Loser glamour girl Fiona Falkiner to his books. Word is Falkiner is being lined up for a TV gig.

REALLY, really rich retirees can put their chequebooks away. Rumours Byron Bay's famous Beach Hotel is up for grabs have been put to rest this week with intensely private owner John Cornell saying he is not letting go of the drinking hole. Cornell, best buddy to Paul Hogan and better known in his heyday as actor/comedian "Strop", spoke to hotel manager Mark Brown this week to end the speculation. "It's not for sale. I spoke to John yesterday and it's definitely not on the market," Brown said.

CHRIS Noth was doing little to detract from his Mr Sleaze, sorry Mr Big, alter ego at hotspot bar Hemmesphere on Thursday night. Accompanied by three ladies, drinking champagne and chomping on cigars, we think it's safe to assume Noth was seeking a little um, sex in the city.

SPOTTED . . . Big Brother evictee Elise happily speaking to patrons at The Establishment on Thursday night . . . Geoff Huegill stocking up on meat at the local butcher in Budgewoi yesterday.

DARYL Somers usually makes more slip-ups on Dancing with the Stars than the contestants, but his blunder on the series finale this week has been branded "dumb and insensitive" by too many Confidential readers to go unnoticed. Luke Ricketson's taped-on "Get Well Sophie" message to recovering accident victim Sophie Delezio seemed to be lost on Dags, who commented: "Well maybe Sophie is watching now." "Doesn't he know that poor Sophie is still in a coma?," writes reader Cristi. "Memo to Channel 7 – please get rid of this clown."
